Abstract

The gifts of the Holy Spirit constitute a central theme in New Testament theology, closely related to the life, growth, and ministry of the church. These gifts are understood as divine grace freely given by God through the work of the Holy Spirit, rather than as human achievements or indicators of individual spiritual superiority. This article aims to examine the definition, biblical foundations, types, as well as the purposes and functions of the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the New Testament. The study employs a qualitative theological literature review, focusing on biblical texts from the Gospel of John, the Acts of the Apostles, and the Pauline Epistles. The findings indicate that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are rooted in Jesus’ promise of the Holy Spirit, fulfilled at Pentecost, and manifested in the diversity of gifts intended for the edification of the church. These gifts include not only supernatural manifestations but also practical forms of service in daily life. Ultimately, the gifts of the Holy Spirit serve to build up the body of Christ, equip believers for ministry, and glorify God within the life and witness of the church.
