The purpose of writing this article is to re-explore the roots of the evangelism mission in the early church, in order to provide inspiration for the implementation of the mission in the context of the present church. The main problem studied is the decline in the spirit of the evangelism mission in the present church which only tends to focus on internal aspects, for example, the physical construction of a magnificent church. This study focuses on the Great Commission in the book of Matthew 28:19-20 which is the main foundation for the evangelism mission, and also reviews the practice of the evangelism mission in the early church. In this study, the author uses a qualitative method with a literature study which in this case involves a review of written literature sources from books and journals. The results of this study will highlight the early church which succeeded in carrying out the evangelism mission even though in their lives they found serious challenges, for example, oppression from the power of the Roman government. However, the evangelism mission continued and developed widely to various regions. Therefore, the church today needs to emulate the spirit that was shown by the people who lived in the context of the early church, and also be able to respond to the challenges in the era of the church today with steadfastness and loyalty, even dependence on the Holy Spirit in carrying out the mission of evangelism
