MISI GEREJA: Tantangan dan Peluang dalam Konteks Pluralisme dan Sekularisme

Abstract

This article explores the church’s role and calling within a world shaped by religious diversity and the growing influence of secularism, highlighting both the challenges and opportunities that arise. Its central concern is how the church can stay faithful to its mission in an environment marked by competing religious perspectives and a strong secular outlook. The discussion draws from a range of contemporary missiological studies, including Bosch (1991), along with other relevant literature and recent research on the church’s role in a changing society. The approach taken is descriptive and analytical, relying on a review of theological texts, academic articles, and biblical sources. The findings indicate that the church’s mission goes far beyond evangelism, extending to issues of social justice, honoring human dignity, and serving the wider community. In this regard, the church needs to shape a missiology that is rooted in its current context, with an emphasis on reconciliation as a vital element of its witness. In doing so, the church can reinterpret these challenges as openings to renew its role as a witness for Christ — through meaningful dialogue, concrete acts of service, and solidarity with all people. This article may also serve as a valuable resource for church leaders engaged in further study and reflection.
